Emelie Sandström organically fuses together medieval iconography and science fiction, religion and magic, primitive art and virtual reality, distilling in her work contemporary aesthetics and trends, yet conceptually incorporating a richer nexus of political and idiosyncratic interests. Bending and spontaneously plying hard materials like stained glass, bronze, copper, wood, but also producing ethereal works on paper — her art is able to be poetic, oneiric and infused of a unique and personal sensitivity while still in contact with poignant ethical questions of nowadays’ world.
Emelie Sandström (1986, Stockholm) graduated with a MFA at Malmö Konsthögskolan in 2015 and had solo exhibitions at Nevven Gallery (2019), Sikås Art Center (Sikås, 2018), Galleri Ping Pong (Malmö, 2016), Galleri KHM (Malmö, 2015), H. Bergdal Gallery (Malmö, 2014) and Bror Hjorts Hus (Uppsala, 2014). Sandström was also included in group exhibitions at Gallery Pina (Wien, 2018), Galleri Thomassen (Göteborg, 2018), Galerie A.M.180 (Prague, 2018), Malmö Konstmuseum (Malmö, 2017), Ystads Konstmuseum (Ystad, 2017), Loyal Gallery (Stockholm, 2016), Galleri Riis (Stockholm, 2015), Galleri Nicolai Wallner (Copenhagen, 2015) and her work is included in the public collection of Malmö Konstmuseum, Bror Hjorts Hus, Region Skåne, Lunds Kommun, Uppsala Kommun and Uppsala Läns Landsting.
