The spectrum of Julius Pristauz’s (1998, Judenburg / Austria) work consists of artistic and curatorial activities, all connected through an active interest in the construction and gender aspect of identities. With an affection for the building of trends and authority, their pieces repeatedly revolve around observations of contemporary culture – reflecting common habits of fetishizing, commodifying and citing corporate tendencies within the creation of and caring for communities. Interrogating tensions between the mainstream and subcultures, the presenter and consumers, their installations usually contain various media and are often completed by performance pieces which blend extracts from popular culture with personal writings and choreography through different forms of re-enactment and contextualization. Pristauz has curated shows at Kunstverein Kärnten (Klangenfurt, 2021), Heiligenkreuzer Hof (Vienna, 2020) and EXILE (Vienna, 2020 and 2019), they were exhibited at EXILE (Vienna, 2021 and 2020), Vienna Art Week (2020), Pina Vienna (2020), Grazer Kunstverein (Graz, 2019) and on the side of their independent artistic and curatorial practice, they freelance as a writer and editor for contemporary culture. Pristauz lives and works in Vienna.
