Murat Önen’s (1993, Istanbul) paintings are “haunted by familiar faces and forms that seem to briefly emerge from among the light and objects, finding a moment of rest and attention within his scenes. Önen approaches the question of masculinity in the form of a melancholic yet humorous confrontation with desire, that is gradually revealed as a yearning for closeness and belonging” (Anna Gien). He is currently studying at the Düsseldorf Art Academy while having also a diploma from the Dresden Academy of Fine Arts. Önen has exhibited, among others, at Robert Grünenberg (Berlin, 2020), Liebaert Projects (Kortrijk, 2020), Oberüber Karger (Dresden, 2019), Akademie der bildenden Künste (Vienna, 2019) and Bruch & Dallas (Cologne, 2019). Önen lives and works in Düsseldorf, Germany.
