Ronya Hirsma’s (b.1994, Helsinki) photographic work revolves around everyday life and domesticity, suggesting a tension and movement in the seemingly most mundane subjects captured through her lens. Often set within the context of the home, her work straddles and traverses the boundaries between the ordinary and the extraordinary, the familiar and the unfamiliar, as well as the physical reality and the psychological realm. Through the moments and situations depicted in her images, Hirsma addresses the complexity and ambiguity inherent in everyday events and encounters. Hirsma holds an MFA in Photography from HDK-Valand Academy in Gothenburg (2024), and has studied at Aalto University in Helsinki (2022) and University of Helsinki (2018). She has recently exhibited at Galleria Rajatila (Tampere, 2024), Röda Sten Konsthall (Gothenburg, 2024), NEVVEN (Gothenburg, 2024), Galleri Monitor (Gothenburg, 2024 and 2023), Galleri Format (Malmö, 2023), and Beaux-Arts De Paris (Paris, 2022), and her artist book is represented in the collection of Hasselblad Center in Gothenburg. Hirsma lives and works in Helsinki, Finland.
